Golf Card Setup

You start out by setting up the 'Golf Card'.

Use the General Setup tabto tailor the use of Backnine Bookie for yourtournament. Here you can decide what information you want to keep about golfers andwhether or not to print tickets for bets that are taken.

The Rounds and Flights tab is used to specify how to split up the betting pools. Eachnew file that you create can handle bets for up to 11 different rounds, plus bets on theoverall tournament winner. You can also divide your betting into up to 12'flights'. This allows you to have separate betting on A, B, C and D players, oron score without handicap vs. score with handicap.

With theBetting Defaults and Betting Setup tabs, you can tailor the betting and payouts for eachround/flight combination on which you will be taking bets. You decide what the minimum betand payouts will be, how much will be held back by the 'house', which type ofbets will be valid, and how winnings will be rounded.

Backnine Bookie handles all of the most popular bet types, including Win, Place, Show,Exacta, and Trifecta bets. It also handles bets tailored specifically to golfingevents, including Consecutive Round bets (where you must pick the winner of up to sixconsecutive rounds in the same flight), and All Flights bets (where you must pick thewinner in each flight for a particular round).

On the Golfer Setup tab, you input the names, numbers, and handicap foreach competitor in the tournament.

Bettor Information

Backnine Bookie lets you keep track of information about each bettor that participatesin your betting pool, including his or her name, phone number, e-mail address. Keepingthis information is optional. In fact, if you wish to use paper tickets instead, you donot need to track even the name of the bettors.

Other features allow you to save time, such as by converting all tournament participants into bettors with just a click of the mouse.

The Bet Sheet

Bet sheets can be printed out for each round of the tournament and passed out to the bettors so that they can easily record their bets. The use of bet sheets is optional, but many clubs find that they help speed up the wagering process.

You can print bet sheets to record Win, Place, and Show bets for each round/flight combination of the tournament. Plus, you can print an 'exotic' bet sheet to record exactas, trifectas, 'consecutive round', and 'all flights in a round' bets.

Betting Window

The Betting Window is a collection of windows that let you easily cash, collect, or place new bets with ease.

The Transaction Summary window summarizes all of the activity for a bettor during one trip to the betting window. A bettor can place bets on one or more rounds and then cash tickets from completed rounds all in one trip. The totals are summarized and the amount that is finally collected or paid to the bettor is recorded in your Backnine Bookie file.

Bets can be placed randomly or through the use of bet sheets. In one trip to the betting window, a bettor can place bets on all of the round/flight combinations. Bets can be placed either with a few clicks of the mouse or, for those who prefer, with the keyboard. Enter the amount of the bet (or click one of the pre-set bet amounts), choose a bet type, and then record the picks. Special features, such as the 'Across the Board' bet type and the 'box' feature for exacta and trifecta bets, save precious time while entering bets.

While working the betting window, you can also 'cash' winning tickets with a couple of clicks! When your betting transaction is finished, Backnine Bookie calculates how much is due or how much should be paid out. Backnine Bookie does all of the math for you!

Displaying the Odds

After you’ve taken some bets, Backnine Bookie computes the odds for Win, Place, Show, Exacta, and 2 Consecutive Round bets.

Odds can be displayed on one part of the screen in an 'auto-run' mode, whichkeeps the odds updated every few seconds. Watch the odds change almost instantly as youenter new bets!

With Backnine Bookie, while you must use only one computer to input the bets, you canuse a computer which is networked to the main computer to display the odds to prospectivebettors.

Just like a race track tote board, you can set the odds display to scroll through each type of bet automatically!

You can also control the size of the lettering so that the odds are legible from whatever distance your patrons are away from the computer monitor!

Enter Results and Calculate the Payouts

When a round or the tournament is over, enter the scores of all of the players or just those of the top finishers, if you prefer. Within seconds, Backnine Bookiecomputes the payouts for each type of bet. Payouts are computed using standard pari-mutuelbetting formulas, following the parameters that you set up on the 'Golf CardSetup' window.

Backnine Bookie allows you to indicate tiebreakers if you'd like, but it will also allow you to let the ties stand. The payouts are adjusted on ties so that the total of the payouts does not exceed the amount bet on the round or the tournament.

Betting will be for 'Win' only and the guests may buy as many tickets as they wish. When the race is over and the winner declared, count the winning tickets and divide that amount into the total money bet and you have the payoff for each winning entry. For simplicity's sake, we suggest that one person be designated as the 'bookie' and handles the sales of the 'Win' tickets as well as distribution of the payoffs. Try to find a small cash box -- a cigar box will do -- and keep your receipts in it. A 'bank' of $1 bills to start will make it easy to change $5 bills and larger. If you receive the simulcast of all the races, start with race #1 and go from there. Another idea is to list the post positions of the horses running in the Derby. Your first guest to arrive will receive post position #1, the second guest #2 and so on. In the event there are more guests than post positions, you start over when you have reached the bottom of the list and the winnings would be split.
