The ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 was the tenth Cricket World Cup. It was played in India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. It was Bangladesh’s first time co- hosting a World cup. Fourteen national cricket teams competed in the tournament including ten full members and four associate members. The World cup started with a magnificent opening ceremony which was held at Bangabandhu national Stadium. Dhaka on 17 February ,2011.There was hardly anybody who could debate with the fact that it was the most entertaining opening event in the history of the competition and that’s why it was said that” Th world cup gets back its soul”. This World cup showed the world Bangladesh as a new host . The name of Bangladesh has been at last engraved in the history of countries who organized such event.

The prime minister of Bangladesh declared the world cup open by placing her hand on a plain –scanner. This was followed by an aerial and audio-visual cricket act on a nearby building , and cultural programme . Expectedly ,the Bangladesh cultural programme got more time than Co-hosts India and Sri Lanka .Another innovative bit was when a person aimed a bow towards the sky and released the arrow, it turned into sparkling fireworks .The world cup took place between February and 2nd April2011,with the first match played on 19 February 2011 with co- hosts India and Bangladesh facing off at the sher-e-Bangla National Stadium ,Dhaka 8 marches our of 49 were played in Bangladesh . Bangladesh hosted these 8 matches very successfully .

This is for the first time that the final was contested by two teams from south Asia, and for the first time too that a team won the trophy on home soil.

The tournament was won by India who defeated Sir Lanka by 6 wickets in the final.

India captain mahendra Singh Dhoni scored an unbeaten 91 in the final and was Adjudged the man of the match. India’s Yuvraj Sing was declared the man of the tournament.

Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi and Zaheer Khan of India were jointly most wicket takers of the tournament . And Tillakaratne Dilshan of Sir Lanka did most runs in the tournament.

Last but not for the least the dream of the greatest batsman of the modern era- Tendullkar was finally fulfilled. ICC cricket world cup brought magnificent glory for Bangladesh was Bangladesh was one of the co- hosting members of organizing this giant sporting event . As Bangladeshis we all feel proud of co- hosting this tremendous event.
